Phase 3 of Hillside Cemetery construction underway

Medicine Hat – Work to complete Phase 3 of the Hillside Cemetery Cremation Garden enhancement project has begun. Work will take place in the scattering garden, located in the northeast corner of the cemetery. Construction is anticipated to be completed by August 1, 2025, weather permitting.

• Landscape and irrigation upgrades – These upgrades aim to provide longevity and maintain the health of the greenery in the area. This will enhance the overall aesthetic and provide a peaceful environment for visitors, which is an essential element for a memorial garden.
• Columbarium expansion – Addresses the need for additional space within the Hillside Cemetery cremation garden
• Memorial wall installation – Provides a dedicated space for families to honour loved ones
• Wayfinding signage addition – Improves visitors’ ability to navigate the cemetery
• Furnishing enhancements – These upgrades reinforce the garden’s purpose as a place of remembrance by offering visitors a place to rest, reflect, and connect with their memories

Hillside Cemetery will remain open during this construction to minimize the disruption. This construction may require brief road closures and pedestrian detours. Visitors are asked to be mindful of construction in the area and follow posted signage and barriers. Cemetery staff are available during office hours to assist with inquiries.
