Medicine Hat – In honour of the City’s history and to celebrate a historical site, the City of Medicine Hat, in partnership with the Miywasin Friendship Centre, will host a plaque unveiling ceremony in an area marking the traditional lands near Saratoga Park.

“It’s important that we recognize these lands and celebrate the past so we may build an inclusive and diverse future,” said Aaron Nelson, Manager of Cultural Experiences and Events for the City of Medicine Hat. “We want to interpret this area so our community can appreciate the people who settled here before us, their stories and their contributions to our community.”

“This area is significant to the Metis people who first called Medicine Hat home,” said Brenda Mercer with Miywasin Friendship Centre. “This evening will be about sharing memories and stories about Saratoga Park.”

The plaque unveiling ceremony will take place on Thursday, September 16 at 6:00 p.m. Parking is available in the two gravel lots located at the bottom of Scholten Hill. Additional parking is available at the Saratoga Dog Park. The ceremony and celebration will take place further down the Saratoga Park Trail in the nearby clearing.

The public is invited to attend.

The City of Medicine Hat acknowledges that we live and work on treaty territory. The City pays respect to all Indigenous Peoples and honours their past, present and future. We recognize and respect their cultural heritages and relationships to the land.
