Portion of River Road SE temporarily closed starting Monday for window work at City Hall

Medicine Hat – Starting Monday, Oct. 11, the portion of River Road SE between the entrance to the City Hall parkade and the Provincial Law Courts parkade will be closed for a duration of approximately two weeks with no through-traffic.

A large crane will be parked on River Road SE to facilitate the safe transfer of materials to the sloped and elevated levels of City Hall for the ongoing glass replacement project.

The City Hall parkade remains accessible from the eastern length of River Road SE (from the YMCA side), though the parkade is currently closed to public access under COVID-19 protocols. The parkade at the Provincial Law Courts is accessible from the western length of River Road (from the Public Library side).

The glass replacement along the legislative hallway outside Council Chambers is complete, and work now moves to the three-storey atrium. Patrons may experience adjustments to the traffic flow within the building to ensure safety under the work area, including the closure of the center staircase in the main lobby.

In order to ensure all patrons remain safe near the work area, both inside and outside the building, the City asks visitors to respect all posted signs and barricades in place.

The windows on City Hall’s three-storey glass atrium, as well as along the Legislative Hallway outside of Council chambers, are being replaced for the first time since the building opened in 1983. Windows on other areas of the building will be replaced in a future capital plan.
