Power Down Challenge Underway for July
Medicine Hat – The City of Medicine Hat is launching a Power Down Challenge as part of its Knowledge Saves Power project. Over the month of July, households are encouraged to reduce their energy consumption by 5% or more as compared to their consumption in July 2017. The households with the highest reductions in electricity usage will be entered for a chance to win prizes totaling $1,500 in City of Medicine Hat Gift Cards. The grand prize of $750 will be awarded to the household with the greatest energy reduction.
This is a voluntary energy reduction challenge open to residents of the City of Medicine Hat, Redcliff and Cypress County who receive an Electric Utility Statement form from the City and have lived in their dwelling for at least one year as of July 1, 2017.
The Power Down Challenge will run from July 1, 2018 to July 31, 2018. Entries will be accepted until July 31, 2018 at Customer Service at City Hall until 4:30 p.m. MST and online until 11:59 p.m. MST. For more information and to sign up, visit www.hatsmart.ca/powerdown.
Households can track their current and past usage through eUtility or, if you haven’t already, sign up online at eUtility.medicinehat.ca or call 403.529.8111. For more information on how to reduce your electricity usage visit hatsmart.ca and stay tuned to the City’s Facebook and Twitter pages for updates throughout the months of June and July.
The goal of the Knowledge Saves Power project is to connect residents to tools and information to help conserve energy in their homes. The project, announced last fall, is administered by HAT Smart and made possible by a financial contribution from Natural Resources Canada.
