Province endorses Airport Masterplan with $125,000 investment

Medicine Hat – On April 9, 2024, the Government of Alberta announced that Medicine Hat is one of 74 recipients to receive the Northern and Regional Economic Development Grant. The $125,000 investment will fund creation of the City’s Airport Masterplan, a 20-year strategic vision for growth and development at the Medicine Hat Regional Airport.

“The Masterplan aims to support growth of key sectors located in the region, improve operational efficiency, and facilitate the expansion of air services, thus enhancing the quality of life in the community,” said Logan Boyd, Airport Manager. “The Masterplan will create recommendations for the highest and best use of airport lands through a phased approach for strategic infrastructure and facility development,” adds Boyd.

The first phase of this project, a feasibility study and business case, was recently endorsed by the province with the awarding of a $150,000 Regional Airport Development grant.

“We are immensely grateful for the continued support by our province,” said Pat Bohan, Managing Director of Development and Infrastructure. “This type of investment in our region and local economy will pave the way for further growth and development,” adds Boyd.

The first phase of the project is currently underway and is expected to be complete by September 2024. Development of the Masterplan will begin shortly thereafter with anticipated completion in 2025.
