Public Participation Survey Launched
Medicine Hat – Understanding when and how the public wants to be engaged in municipal matters is the focus of a City survey launched today.
The input will be used in the development of a public participation policy, which will guide the City when seeking the community’s participation or engagement in municipal governance and operational matters. The policy is a requirement under the Municipal Government Act.
“The City has actively engaged with residents and taxpayers for many, many years,” said Leah Prestayko, Corporate Communications Manager. “The policy will serve to formalize our processes and activities, while helping residents and taxpayers better understand how they can influence municipal decisions.”
The survey will help the City understand community values around public engagement. Respondents are asked to describe what City engagement activities should look like, how they want to provide input and feedback, when and on what topics.
Recent public participation opportunities have provided opportunities for residents to influence decisions around cannabis policy development, playground and speed zones, budget and service levels, seniors centre development and residential recycling.
“The City is committed to providing appropriate opportunities for people to be involved in decision making processes and providing the information they need to do so,” said Prestayko. “Our hope is always that the public will become well informed and participate in the opportunities provided.”
The survey is available online at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/yourvoiceMH. Paper versions are available by phoning 403-502-8719. The deadline for response is April 11, 2018.
