Residential Recycling Has Started; Blue Carts Being Delivered
Medicine Hat - The City of Medicine Hat, in partnership with Can Pak Environmental has started delivering blue recycling carts to all single family homes and smaller multi-family residences (fourplexes or less) which currently have a grey household waste cart. The delivery of approximately 23,000 blue recycling carts will be staggered across all solid waste collection zones through the city and may take up to seven weeks to complete.
“The staggered delivery method is being utilized to reduce risks, minimize costs and ensure thorough delivery. With multiple factors to consider, it is difficult to provide exact dates for delivery, however residents can expect weekly updates on the delivery progress through social media and on the City website,” said Brian Murphy, General Manager of the City’s Environmental Utilities Department. Residents should not be concerned if their cart hasn’t arrived before the roll-out period is complete, or if carts have been delivered to nearby residences but not yet to their address.
“Blue recycling carts will be delivered with an information package attached. We encourage everyone to review the information package so they can understand how to use the cart, learn about the materials that are accepted and how to prepare them for recycling,” said Brian Murphy. “We invite residents to start using their blue recycling cart as soon as it arrives; fill it up and set it out on the same collection day in the same set out location as the grey cart.”
Colouring Contest Winners: Congratulations to Jazmyn age (3-7) and Olivia (age 8+) who are the winners of the Blue Cart Colouring Contest. The contest closed on April 20, 2018 and the two winners were chosen by random draw. The winners each received a $100 Big Marble Go Centre gift card and a photo with Mayor Ted Clugston. Thank you to all of the 153 artists that entered the contest.

Glass may be deposited at one of the bulk recycling depots. Blue recycling cart collection will remain on the same day and in the same set out location as the grey and yard waste carts; ensure all carts are set out by 7am.
