River Road SE closing for directional drilling work
Medicine Hat – River Road SE, including the river-side walking path, will be closed for two-and-a-half workdays next week to accommodate directional drilling work under Finlay Bridge as part of an Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) project. ECCC is replacing a flow meter and monitoring station that has reached the end of its service life.
Starting Monday, March 17 at 7 a.m., River Road SE will have a short single-lane closure with flagging protection on-site. The full road, including walking path, will close at 2 p.m. between Fourth Avenue SE and the Maple Avenue SE bridge. The roadway will reopen at 6 p.m. River Road SE will then fully close on Tuesday, March 18 and Wednesday, March 19 from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Please note, the parkades at City Hall, the Court of King’s Bench and Medicine Hat Court House will remain accessible from Fourth Avenue SE during this closure. However, they will be inaccessible off Maple Avenue SE. Motorists are asked to please proceed with caution when accessing parkades and obey all posted signage.
The closure will also have no effect on access to the following:- Medicine Hat Public Library and Fourth Avenue SE businesses south of First Street SE
- Ash Avenue SE off Maple Avenue SE/First Street SE
If drilling work remains after Wednesday at 6 p.m., a single-lane closure with flaggers will be in effect Thursday at 7 a.m.
