Alto brings exciting new heights to downtown.February 4, 2021

Modern condo living on the edge of the South Saskatchewan river will soon be a reality for those seeking waterfront views and a downtown lifestyle.

NewRock Developments announced their newest project, The Alto, at the virtual 2021 State of the City address on January 26.

“The Alto will provide lifestyle options for the community that residents have yet to experience , as well as stunning views of the riverfront,” says Kaleb Motz, marketing director, NewRock Developments. “The planning process on this development has been a lot of fun. We are always looking for unique opportunities to bring to the cities we build in, and this fit the bill perfectly. To have this exciting opportunity in our hometown makes it even better!”

NewRock Developments acquired the property after City Council approved the land sale beneath the empty Medicine Hat Arena on July 15, 2019. Members of council expressed the transaction as an exciting day for the area and the beginning of an era of inner-city redevelopment.

The Alto is still in the design stage but residents of the new mid-rise will experience premier riverfront and downtown views, access to the city’s trail system, and a rooftop patio. The condominium will be open to all ages, offering smaller bachelor-pad suites through to penthouse-sized homes.

“When the arena land came up for sale, we jumped at the chance,” says Motz. “The walkability to downtown, unprecedented views and the opportunity to be part of the greater vision for the proposed Waterfront District was too good to pass up! This will be an exciting development milestone for Medicine Hat.”

Work is planning to begin this summer and fall, starting with the removal of the old arena. Once the demolition is complete, NewRock will start the build on The Alto.
