Riverside Area Asked to Voluntarily Restrict Water Use Next Week
Medicine Hat – Residents in Riverside and along Parkview Close NE are asked to voluntarily reduce water use from July 23-26. During these days, reduced water system capacity will occur in these areas as work crews install new infrastructure related to the 2nd Avenue NE Water Main Replacement Project.
“Four days are required for work crews to install and connect new piping and components to replace existing, 100-year-old water system infrastructure,” explains Brian Murphy, General Manager of the City’s Environmental Utilities department. “During this transition there will be reduced water capacity in the Riverside area. We are asking residents to avoid putting any extra pressure on the system during this time, to make sure water flows remain safe and comfortable.”
“A number of City departments are working together to ensure the safe and efficient changeover from old to new infrastructure,” Murphy adds. “Residents in Riverside and along Parkview Close NE can help by avoiding using extra water on these days for activities like watering lawns or filling water features or any outdoor cleaning or washing.”
The work to replace sections of water, sanitary sewer and storm sewer infrastructure in the Riverside area started in May. This specific stage of the project will be completed between July 23 – 26. Additional work continues through August, with overall project completion targeted for mid-September, weather pending; however, the next stages of construction will not involve the same sorts of constraints on the water system.
Residents with questions about the project can contact Environmental Utilities at 403.529.8176.
