Spin Studio Success

Owner, Sabrina Moore, Kollektiv CycleJuly 23, 2021

Bringing a city vision with her when she moved back home to Medicine Hat from Calgary, Sabrina Moore opened the first beat-based spin studio in the downtown core, where she was adamant about being located, in 2018.

“I wanted to be a part of the revitalization. Downtown is central. It’s a 15-minute drive for everyone, and you have people who live and work downtown who can enjoy a class before or after work, or during their lunch break,” says Moore, owner of Kollektiv Cycle.

Moore fully renovated the interior of a historical building and added bathrooms, lockers, a boutique and spin class area. The design of a spin studio is intentionally compact, which caused Kollektiv to only open for two weeks during pandemic closures.

“We expected to stay open for longer and applied for the MHBIG Incentive through the City of Medicine Hat and Community Futures Entre-Corp for barriers and sanitization supplies,” says Moore. “After losing our main source of revenue for months previously, we didn’t have the financial capacity to withstand the pandemic and purchase those supplies. I’m extremely grateful that we had access to the support, so we can be here today.”

Members showed their concern for their local spin studio and were quick to join online challenges hosted by Moore and CREW Training, another local fitness studio. 350 residents joined the first free online challenge, and 170 residents joined the second $30 online challenge.

“The community support is incredible. People reached out to me over the course of the pandemic excited to know when I could open again,” says Moore. “Now that we are open, we’ve seen many new and familiar faces. Everyone is thrilled to be back, and I’m excited to continue giving people a space of social interaction where friendships build, and health is obtained.”

There is a cluster of businesses downtown, and members will start their night with a spin class at Kollektiv Cycle, and then walk to The Yard for drinks, The Mezz for dinner and Moose and Squirrel Artisan Village for dessert. Moore also hosts spin classes on the patios at Travois Ale Works and LOCAL Public Eatery.

“Everyone really supports each other down here, and we really do have a symbiotic relationship,” says Moore.

Kollektiv Cycle can be found at 317 6 Ave S.E, Medicine Hat.
