Towne Square to come alive this summer with weekly Saturday block parties

Medicine Hat – The City plans to showcase the vibrancy of our community and bring Hatters together this summer with block parties on Saturdays from noon to 4 p.m. in downtown’s Towne Square.

“We are capitalizing on our strong track record of bringing the community together through shared experiences,” says Paul Francis, Acting Manager of Cultural Experiences and Events. “By extending our programming efforts to Towne Square, we have another avenue to unite our community and foster the creation of memorable experiences,” adds Francis.

Guests can expect a changing lineup of free activities and games for all ages, loosely centered around a new theme each week.

“My hope is that Hatters will be encouraged to come back every Saturday because a new experience will await them every week,” describes Candace Lundrigan, Cultural Programs Coordinator. “At minimum, you can expect to see opportunities to be active like water fights, mini golfing and bouncy castles, along with creative and artistic opportunities like face painting, chalk art and sensory play, and of course, a rotating selection of retailers from our food truck community will be there to ensure our guests have tasty treats to enjoy.”

An online form is available for market vendors who are interested in joining the block parties.

“We value our vendor community and, by demonstrating Towne Square’s potential, we hope various user groups will capitalize on the energy we’re building here and will be encouraged to rent the space for their next event,” says Francis.

If you’re worried about parking downtown, don’t be. Finding a spot will be easier this summer with the addition of free parking on the third level of the Transit Terminal Parkade and ten free spaces at Towne Square. Even though construction is underway on third street, downtown remains open for business.
