Update - 2024 Saamis Tepee upgrade project
Medicine Hat – Work to upgrade the Saamis Tepee is ongoing with a new anticipated completion in mid-August 2024, earlier than the initial October estimate (weather pending).
The current scope of work involves a repaint of the Tepee, including the steel components of the structure from top to bottom. The project will see the Tepee's zigzag decorative structure, matched to its previous 2009 and 2010 repaint. The main white structure and the two mast extension tips will also undergo a thorough refresh.
The backside of the circular sign boards attached to the Tepee will receive a new coating to preserve their original colors. The front art faces of these boards are excluded from this project and will be carefully protected during the project.
During the construction period, the Tepee will not be available for the ‘Lighting for a Cause’ program.
The walking paths around the Tepee will remain accessible, but the vehicle access gate may be closed intermittently to maintain work site safety.
The City thanks residents for their patience during the necessary upgrades and construction.
