Work continues on urban well near 13 Avenue SE

Medicine Hat – Starting Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2023, the City will continue work on an abandoned gas well in the back parking lot of the Medicine Hat Toyota property on Strachan Road SE.

In early 2021, the City exhausted attempts to service well 100/04-20-012-05W4/00 with smaller, less-intrusive equipment like coil tubing and wireline units. A service rig is now required to address a non-typical sweet shallow gas downhole abandonment.

Residents and motorists in the area will see this large equipment along 13 Avenue SE and Strachan Road SE starting Tuesday and will notice a temporary increase in noise during the day. This operation is expected to take five or more days.

The work presents no anticipated danger to residents aside from proximity to heavy equipment. Temporary fencing will be erected around the worksite with security on site.

There should be no roadway impact to motorists. The public is asked to observe a safe distance from the worksite and obey all signage, barriers and personnel.
