Camping in Medicine Hat

Experience the sunshine, peace of the coulees, rolling prairies and more!

With an average of 330 days of sunshine each year, we're able to offer campers five full months of camping, from May through to the end of September.

Campground registration for the 2025 season opens to the public on Monday, February 3, 2025.

Echo Dale Campground

Echo Dale Campground is closed for the season.

Echo Dale Campground offers 10 individual campsites located approximately 1km from a boating lake, fishing lake, and swimming area. There is also a beach volleyball court, playground, and open space for baseball and soccer nearby.

Amenities

Discover all of the amenities Echo Dale Regional Park has to offer, including the historic farm, Woolfrey House and Ajax building. Take a dip in the swimming lake, enjoy the playground or join in a game of beach volleyball. The park is filled with trails which connect to our Heritage Trail Network spanning over 155 kilometres and an accessible dock allows for access to the South Saskatchewan River. 

Campground amenities include:

  • Camp kitchen with wood burning stove - please bring your own wood
  • Large, shared fire pit area
  • Picnic tables
  • Pit toilets

Full payment is required at time of booking, as well as a $11.00 non-refundable reservation fee.

If you need to cancel your booking and request a refund, please do so prior to 48 hours in advance of your reservation start date and fill out the online refund request form.

Rules and regulations
  • Campsites may be reassigned due to maintenance requirements or unforeseen circumstances
  • Reservation must be made by an individual who will be camping onsite
  • Check In: 2:00 p.m.
  • Check Out: 11:00 a.m.
  • Quiet time: 11:00 p.m. – 7:00 a.m.
  • Alcohol is permitted only in the campsites
  • All sites are unserviced but potable water is available on site
  • There is a plug in for a generator in order to have lights on in the building - please bring your own generator
  • Please confine fires to the fire pits provided
  • Keep your campsite and fire pit clean at all times
  • Please use commercially sold firewood only
    • Pallets, wood pieces with nails, metal etc. are not permitted
  • Ensure pets are leashed, not left unattended, and that you tidy up after them
  • Swimming at the lake is limited to the posted hours
  • Park gates are locked at night per posted hours, visitors must leave the park no later than 11:00 p.m.
  • Between 3 p.m. and 11 p.m., reservation holder may contact 403-928-1281 for assistance
  • For non-life threatening emergencies after 11:00 p.m., please call Dispatch at 403-526-2828. Call 911 for medical or life safety emergencies.
  • Park staff reserve the right to remove anyone from the park for inappropriate behaviour or failure to comply with the rules
  • Fire wood may be purchased at the concession

We urge everyone to take precautions when using public fire pits located throughout our parks. It is your responsibility to fully extinguish fires when done, to keep fires low and to use clean, dry wood.

Gas City Campground

Gas City Campground is closed for the season. 

Gas City Campground offers 98 campsites and is located off the Trans-Canada Highway and 7 Street SW. 

Please note, overflow bookings must be made in person and cannot be reserved online.

Amenities

Gas City Campground provides beautiful shady sites with manicured grass and services which suit every style of camper. Located across from WestVue Dog Park, pets are welcome! Please remember that pets must be on-leash at all times.

The campground connects to our Heritage Trail Network, which spans 155 kilometres throughout the city. These multi-use trails are open to cyclists, joggers, walkers and pet owners.

Long weekend reservations

A minimum booking of three nights (Fri, Sat and Sun) is required for long weekends:

  • Civic Holiday (Friday, August 2 to Sunday, August 4)
  • Labour Day (Friday, August 30 to Sunday, September 1)
Rules and regulations
  • Campsites may be reassigned due to maintenance requirements or unforeseen circumstances
  • One camping party per site; defined as:
    • Camping units: Maximum of 1 per site
    • Tenting: Maximum of 2 tents per site
  • Please respect quiet time from 10 p.m. - 7 a.m.
  • Visitors are permitted until 10 p.m.
  • This is a fully irrigated campground, sprinklers run overnight from Monday to Thursday
  • Ensure pets are leashed, not left unattended, and that you tidy up after them
  • Tents must be moved every three days to allow the grass to recover (irrigation purposes)
  • Please do not place any mats or rugs on the grass
  • Please confine fires to the fire pits provided
  • Keep your campsite and fire pit clean at all times
  • Please use commercially sold firewood only
    • Pallets, wood pieces with nails, metal etc. are not permitted
  • Vehicles must remain on roadways and parking pads, please do not drive or park on the grass
  • Garbage receptacles are located throughout the campground for your convenience
  • Gas City Campground is not responsible for lost or stolen items
  • Management reserves the right to remove anyone (without refund) from the campground for inappropriate behaviour or failure to comply with the campground flow of traffic regulations

Comfort Cabins

Two comfort cabins, each 540 sq. feet and fully accessible, were added in the 2022 camping season.

Amenities

Each cabin features:

  • two bedrooms (two double beds, sleeps four, and one double bed, sleeps two)
  • kitchenette, including a sink and refrigerator, no cooking surface (for your convenience, we provide a coffee pot, microwave, small grill and toaster oven, as well as dishes and utensils)
  • table with four chairs
  • living room with a loveseat and two armchairs
  • washroom with a toilet and sink
  • covered porch, fire pit, picnic table, single parking stall, bike rack

The comfort cabins are located near an accessible washroom and shower facilities. Please note, pets are not permitted in the comfort cabins. Each cabin is supplied with cleaning tools to assist you during your stay and is professionally cleaned after each use.
