The City of Medicine Hat offers a variety of meeting and social rooms as well as larger halls that are perfect for award dinners, showers, weddings, or galas.

This boardroom is an ideal meeting room for up to 40 people. Computer and three TV screens are provided for easy site lines for your group. Internet access, fridge, top freezer, sink, and counter space are provided.

Ideal for small meetings for up to 12 people. TV on the wall and internet access is provided, you will need your own laptop and HDMI cord for hook up.

Outdoors

The Courtyard Patio located off the Kinsmen Aquatic Centre and the KinPlaza located by the Methanex Bowl are great for seasonal informal outdoor events.

Esplanade

Rent elegant spaces in one of the City's top venues. The Esplanade's modern design features versatility, from a private meeting room to our studio theatre, main stage, and rooftop terrace. Hold meetings, host receptions or throw parties in one of the Esplanade's many unique spaces.

Whether you are planning a meeting for 20 people or a special event for 120 people, the Esplanade has a room that will fit your needs. Provide us with the details of your event and we will provide a variety of options to suit your needs.

Book the Cutbanks Room (meeting)

The Cutbanks Boardroom can be booked online for daytime meetings during the Esplanade's public operating hours. Bookings must meet the following criteria:

  • $154.70 + GST
  • Attendance capacity of 24 max.
  • Tuesday to Saturday from 12 - 5 pm for half day bookings up to four (4) hours max.
  • Projector / Screen and desktop computer are available in the room.
  • No alcohol or catering is permitted with the exception of prepared ‘treats’ i.e. Tim Horton’s coffee/donuts etc.

Heritage Pavilion

Please note, the Heritage Pavilion will be closed from September 1 to November 3, 2024 to accommodate a sewer infrastructure replacement project.

Main Floor

The Heritage Pavilion Main Floor is a multi-purpose space that can be used for a variety of rentals including weddings, corporate events, meetings, fundraisers, and other premiere events. This space is approximately 1100 square feet and features comfortable seating for about 65 people. Attached is a servery area that allows renters to bring in their own food/catering and alcohol.

This patio is adjacent to the Heritage Pavilion Pond and has picturesque views of Strathcona Park. This space is approximately 1700 square feet and comfortably fits 120 people in a banquet style setup. The lower-level patio is an optional addition to your Main Floor booking.

  • A cost of $25.00 / hour will be added to the rental rate for an on-site event host during the rental times. 

City of Medicine Hat Alcohol Management Policy

The City of Medicine Hat Alcohol Management Policy requires you to obtain and provide copies of the following in order to consume, serve or sell alcohol within City Facilities:

  1. An appropriate Liquor Permit in accordance with the Gaming and Liquor Act (must be posted during your event).

    The permit must be purchased online.

  2. Host Liquor Liability Coverage

    • The City of Medicine Hat must be named as an additional insured
    • Minimum $2,000,000 liability is required. You can get this coverage from your own insurance company, or directly from Party Alcohol Liability Canada.

Rental Rules

Room Access

Access is granted only for the time indicated on your Event Confirmation Permit. If you require additional set-up and take-down time, please include this in the time frame of your rental. Users must vacate the premises by 2 a.m.

Cleaning

We kindly ask all users to leave the room as you had found it when you arrived.

  • wipe major spills,

  • wipe counters and tables,

  • tie garbage and leave near the door,

  • remove all decorations and items you may have brought with you,

  • vacuuming or mopping is not required unless any major spills occur. A small utility closet contains cleaning supplies if required.

Hockey Hounds Arena

The Hockey Hounds Social Room is ideal for small banquets, small receptions, and meetings for up to 75 people. There is a full kitchen and patrons are welcome to bring in their own food and beverages.

Rate: $149.36 + GST (bookings between 8 a.m. and 11 p.m.) - Sept. 1, 2024 to Aug. 31, 2025

Tables: Ten round tables 5' in diameter and five 6' rectangular tables

The Kinplex Social Room allows events with alcohol in adherence to the City of Medicine Hat Alcohol Management Policy.

Medicine Hat Cultural Centre

Book the Cultural Centre 

The City of Medicine Hat manages two rooms at the Cultural Centre. The Black Box Theatre, CC189, is exactly what the name implies. This small theatre has bleacher seating and floor space for staging or for chairs. The Craft Photo Room, CC169, is a large room with a dance floor that can be booked empty for group physical activities or set up with chairs and tables for presentations.
