Swimming, Pools & Spray Parks

Cool off during the hot summer months in one of our two outdoor swimming pools or have fun year round in our state of the art Kinsmen Aquatic Centre.

All children under eight (8) years of age must be accompanied in the water (pools and swim lake) by a person 16 years of age or older.

Swimming lessons

  • On the first day of class, bring your child's previous progress card and receive a free two for one swim admission.
  • If registering in a multi-level swim class, please inform the instructor of your child's swim level on the first day of class.
  • Private lessons are available and can be booked online, by phone or in person. There is no guarantee that your child will have the same instructor if booking more than one private lesson. If your child has special learning needs, please let your instructor know before the first lesson.
  • If unsure what class to register your child in for swimming lessons, we do swim assessments free of charge. Please call 403-525-8926 or email us to set up a time.

Red Cross swimming lesson equivalency

Starfish, Duck, Sea Turtle, and Sea Otter are for children under the age of five and do not have entry requirements.

Become a lifeguard

Lifeguards are highly skilled and trained individuals. To become a lifeguard you must be 16 years of age and have the following courses.

Standard First Aid, CRP-C & AED

Learn the foundational skills to treat an ill or injured person. Does not need to be taken at an aquatic facility.


Length: 16 to 30 hours

Bronze Medallion

If you're a strong swimmer, enjoy working with people and are motivated towards a job as a lifeguard, start here.


Age: 13+

Length: 16 to 25 hours

Bronze Cross

Continues to increase fitness and first air intensities. Working on tows, rescues, carries and spinal management.


Requires Bronze Medallion

Length: 20 hours

Lifesaving Swim Instructor

Prepares candidates to instruct swimming lessons. Learning progressions, strokes, games and safety items.


Age: 16+ 

Requires Bronze Cross

Length: 40 hours & additional co-teach

National Lifeguard

A final intensive course to become a lifeguard. Increasing difficulty for fitness and lifeguard skills.


Age: 16+

Requires Bronze Cross, Standard First Aid
