Medicine Hat City Council has finalized its Strategic Plan 2014-2018, which focuses on creating a growing economy, delivering excellent quality of life and providing good governance. “This plan will accelerate growth in our city and ensure we provide services, infrastructure and amenities that make our community a great place to live and visit,” said Mayor Ted Clugston. “Our Strategic Plan will help guide our decisions, work and activity for the next four years. This Council is committed to seeing results and engaging city residents, businesses and stakeholders in our progress.”

Council’s Strategic Plan 2014-2018 identifies six strategic priorities and will assist the City to move toward Council’s vision for Medicine Hat in 2040.

The six priorities identified are:
  • Economic development
  • Infrastructure and amenities
  • Social wellness
  • Image and profile
  • Fiscal management
  • City government
Key results are associated with each priority area, outlining the specific outcomes Council expects to accomplish.

“We’ve outlined an ambitious and exciting direction for our community,” said Clugston. “We have made progress. Construction on the Medicine Hat Regional Events Centre is underway, business owners are pleased with the revitalization of the 600 block of Second Street downtown and we’re advancing our green energy agenda. We’re implementing flood mitigation strategies and improving recreational services, including enhancements to the Family Leisure Centre and building a new seniors centre. We want to capitalize on that momentum and continue to move forward.”
