Advisory Boards are established by City Council under the Municipal Government Act to provide information, advice and recommendations for consideration by City Council and Administration.

Arts & Heritage Advisory Board
Meetings are held monthly on the last Monday (except December).

The Arts and Heritage Advisory Board's mandate is to act in an advisory capacity to the Committee and Council with respect to the Esplanade and other matters relating to arts and heritage. 

The Board performs the following functions and duties:

  • to identify issues pertaining to its mandate and to solicit input from the community at large, and develop recommendations;
  • to evaluate existing policies and programs on issues pertaining to its mandate;
  • to act as a liaison between individuals and community groups and organizations in the development of policies, programs, facilities and long range planning; and
  • to solicit input, and develop recommendations on relevant policy matters when requested by the Committee, Council, or other standing committees of Council.
  • to recommend to council the award of Cultural Grants

Board members serve a term of three years and no advisory board member may be appointed for more than three consecutive terms.

City Centre Development Agency (CCDA)
The CCDA is responsible for promotional ideas and events to draw people to the City core, and also researches new opportunities for investment and development.

Medicine Hat Public Library Board
The Medicine Hat Public Library Board is an autonomous legal entity governed by the Alberta Libraries Act, which speaks and has authority for the Library. It is responsible for the management, regulation and control of the Library. This involves the setting of policy, identification of the community’s needs, development of long and short-term plans, promotion of the Library in the community, and the establishment of an annual budget.

Members serve a three year term and are expected to serve on one of the following committees: 

  • Advocacy/Policy/Programs and Services; or
  • Human Resources and Finance

In addition, the Library Board is responsible for hiring, monitoring and evaluating the Chief Librarian, as well as monitoring and evaluating the Library’s operation.

Social Development Advisory Board
Held the second Wednesday of the month (except July and August).

The mandate of the Social Development Advisory Board is to act in an advisory capacity to the Public Services Committee and City Council in matters involving the social needs of the community at large.

The Board performs the following functions and duties:

  • to identify issues pertaining to its mandate and to solicit input from the community at large, and develop recommendations;
  • to evaluate existing policies and programs on issues pertaining to its mandate;
  • to act as a liaison between individuals and community groups and organizations in the development of policies, programs, facilities, and long-range planning; and
  • to solicit input, and develop recommendations on relevant policy matters when requested by the Committee, Council, or other standing committees of Council.

Urban Environment & Recreation Advisory Board (UERAB)
UERAB is mandated to act in an advisory capacity to the Public Services Committee and City Council on policy and high level planning matters pertaining to the urban environment, parks and recreation.

The Board serves the following functions and duties:

  • to identify issues pertaining to its mandate and to solicit input from the community at large, and develop recommendations;
  • to evaluate existing policies and programs on issues pertaining to its mandate;
  • to act as a liaison between individuals and community groups and organizations in the development of policies, programs, facilities and long range planning; and
  • to solicit input, and develop recommendations on relevant policy matters when requested by the Committee, Council, or other standing committees of Council.

Transit Advisory Board (TAC)
