Several City departments, including Electric Distribution, Environmental Utilities and Municipal Works, are working together to improve and replace infrastructure along 1st Street SW between Division Avenue S and Chinook Drive SW. By working together, the City is able to better coordinate timing, costs and efficiencies along this traffic corridor. Work involves water and sanitary sewer upgrades and road rehabilitation.
The current work is related to work performed in 2018 when the City’s Gas department completed work on the north side of the street, relocating infrastructure to make room for additional utility upgrades.
New water and sanitary sewer mains will help to provide adequate fire protection and increased reliability services for customers. Concrete curbs and gutters were also replaced, where required, and sidewalks were enhanced to support accessibility for wheelchair users.
Construction is now completed for the 2019 season.
Minimal work will need to be completed in the spring of 2020, including completing driveway aprons, adding top lift asphalt and adding landscaping on the 100 and 200 blocks of 1 Street SW.
We thank everyone for your patience during this Infrastructure Renewal project.
