Project Description

To address aging infrastructure needs, the City will be completing water main, sanitary sewer and storm sewer upgrades, as well as road rehabilitation along the Kipling and Spencer Street SE corridor from Kingsway Avenue to College Avenue.

In 2019, major upgrades were completed during the first stage of this multi-year project, which included the installation of a new water main in the Spencer Street SE area.

Timing & Traffic Accommodations

Work in the area is expected to begin in May.

The 2020 project will be split into phases, allowing crews to complete the work in segments while facilitating continued access to local businesses and residences during construction.

Detours will be in place and motorists are reminded to obey all traffic signs and detours related to ongoing construction.

Benefits

This project will provide new water, sewer, and storm systems in the area to replace the existing aging and deteriorating infrastructure. The corridor between Kingsway Avenue and College Avenue will also see a full road rehabilitation, including geometry improvements and intersection upgrades.

Notifications

All impacted residents and businesses have been notified of the project and are aware of its benefits to their homes and properties. Communication will be maintained with area occupants throughout the project duration.

An Open House was held on Wednesday, February 26. The public was invited to attend and were given the opportunity to provide comments, feedback and ask questions about the upcoming project.

A second Information Session will be held closer to the start of construction to provide the public with information on the final design details and updates on project timelines.

Future updates will be provided here, by public advisory and on the City’s social media channels.

Safety

The contractor will be placing a perimeter fence around the work areas to ensure public safety, while allowing pedestrian access to area businesses.
