In conjunction with HAT Smart, Environmental Utilities has Water Conservation and Water Stewardship as two top priorities. A river running through your city may be misleading to some residents thinking that conserving water is not a necessary practice. Although we have the South Saskatchewan River providing us with access to safe, clean water; it is extremely important to be mindful of how and why we are using water as well as the amount of water we are using.

Rivers are not infinite. During times of drought, the river levels diminish significantly which can greatly affect the raw water supply to the Water Treatment Plant and treated water supply to water users. How our waterways are being used and cared for also impacts the water supply.

We often take this resource for granted. However, it costs a considerable amount of money to first treat water so that we can drink it and, secondly, treat the water we’ve used so that it can be put back into the environment in a state that is as clean as possible. Water conservation and efficiency are not only good for the environment, it helps reduce the overall costs for water distribution and collection systems. Plus, water conservation saves you, the consumer, on your monthly utility statement.

We are all responsible for conserving and preserving our water supply.
