Gas Emergency Services
Gas Distribution responds to emergencies involving gas line hits, gas odour, carbon monoxide and Gas Distribution system outage calls 24 hours per day.
Please call Gas Distribution Customer Service for assistance in handling any gas emergency at 403.529.8191.
Gas Distribution does not service or repair customer equipment. For problems relating to the operation of gas appliances, please contact a gas fitter. A listing of gas fitting professionals can be found in the Yellow Pages of the telephone book or online.

Remember to Call Before you Dig
City of Medicine Hat line locates are completed within three working days. It is up to you to contact all other facility owners in the area not listed above. Go to the Alberta One-Call website to submit your locate request.

Keep Gas Lines and Gas Meters clear of all obstructions

When building or renovating your home, yard or business, please do not to build around or over gas meters or gas lines and do not move them. This includes small construction projects such as small decks, sheds or window overhangs that may not require building permits

Gas Meter Testing and Inspection
Periodic testing of gas meters is government regulated and is completed by Gas Distribution customer service personnel. Affected customers are given an advance notice of an appointment to minimize the service interruption.
Some older homes have a service regulator indoors. These are inspected once every three years by Gas Distribution staff. There is no charge to the homeowner for this service.
Line and Meter Leak Surveys
The City of Medicine Hat conducts regular line and meter leak surveys throughout the city. Employees and contracted inspectors wearing authorized City of Medicine Hat identification are authorized to enter yards to conduct these leak surveys and take photos of City-owned meters.
You may ask to see ID if you are home when they visit. If they cannot access your yard when your neighbourhood is being inspected, they will contact you or leave a door hanger asking to inspect your meter. Appointments can be arranged by contacting Gas Distribution customer service at 403.529.8190
