River Road Overland Flow Protection Strategy is designed to protect City Hall, the Provincial Court House, and the Court of Queens Bench from overland flooding during high flow events on the South Saskatchewan River. The project requires the construction of 100m of removable flood barriers, ranging in height from 1.5m to 3.75m. The design basis is to protect from a 1 in 100yr flood event (5480 m3/s) on the South Saskatchewan River plus an additional 1m of freeboard. This additional height protects to flows greater than the 1 in 200 year event (6260 m3/s).
