About Riverside

As one of Medicine Hat’s earliest neighbourhoods, Riverside has a rich history and features a diverse, eclectic and charming character. The impressive landmarks, integration of the natural environment, and effortless connections between homes, parks, churches and businesses keep Riverside a desirable area, more than a century after it was established.

Why is this Plan needed?

Recent changes have happened in Riverside, others are likely on the way, and still other things have the potential of happening. Created with ongoing community involvement, the Riverside Neighbourhood Plan will help guide future development to align with the community’s vision.

Thanks for your input!

In 2017, we reached out to the public with two open houses, a trade show booth and a public survey. We wanted the community’s help in creating a plan for the future, so that Riverside stays a great area in which to live, work and spend leisure time.

We were happy to see hundreds of ‘Hatters attending the engagement events, and the high level of survey response and lively discussion. Analyzing your feedback, City staff have finalized the Plan, which is available for download.

Plan adopted

After some meaningful discussion, the Riverside Area Redevelopment Plan (Bylaw 4502) was adopted with unanimous consent by City Council at the regular Medicine Hat City Council Meeting on December 17, 2018.

Thank you to staff, stakeholders and especially to members of the community for their knowledge, input and enthusiasm in the creation of this neighbourhood plan.
