Community Feedback Sought On Seniors Centre Options: Planning for today AND tomorrow

Medicine Hat residents are invited to learn about the options being considered for a new Seniors Centre and provide feedback through a variety of methods.

City Council is being asked to consider two options for the new centre:

  • a new stand-alone facility at the corner of College Drive SE and Primrose Drive SE
  • a new purpose-built building linked to the Family Leisure Centre

Each site comes with its own set of pros and cons. Location, construction and operating costs, physical space and programming opportunities are all part of the equation.

The facility will become home to the clubs, services and programs provided at the Veiner Centre prior to the 2013 flood. Construction of a new facility also provides new opportunities for purpose built design, flexible space planning and improved programming into the future.

Residents can learn more about the options to be considered by Council and provide their thoughts from June 30th to July 17th.

Who should be involved? The facility is expected to serve the needs of seniors (membership open to 50+) for the next 40 or more years. Given the expected lifespan of the building, even today’s youth will be able to use the building when they become seniors. Current users, future users, service providers, caregivers and taxpayers can all have a voice through the feedback opportunities established.

Building and operating a new facility is a significant undertaking for any municipality. We only have one shot; it’s important that we get it right. We want to hear from you.
