The City of Medicine Hat installed a 4.5 kW solar PV system on the roof of the Medicine Hat Public Library as part of the Alberta Municipal Solar Program in 2016. This installation was an upgrade to the 1 kW system installed in 2006.
Medicine Hat is fortunate to have the most hours of sunshine in Canada. Solar power is produced during the day, coinciding with peak electricity demand. This reduces the use of valuable natural gas to help meet these peak loads. The solar PV system at the Medicine Hat Public Library helps increase awareness of the potential of renewable energy in the community.
This project was funded by the HAT Smart program in partnership with the Municipal Climate Change Action Centre and Terralta.
