The Power Down Challenge, as part of the Knowledge Saves Power Project*, is a City-wide voluntary energy reduction challenge. Participating households are encouraged to reduce their energy consumption levels by 5% or more in the month of July 2018 compared to their consumption from July 2017.

Households in the City of Medicine Hat (City), Redcliff and Cypress County who receive a City residential Electric Utility statement and have resided at the same address for a minimum of one year as of July 1, 2018 (on or before July 1, 2017) are encouraged to participate. Entrants who have not lived in the same dwelling for one (1) consecutive year are not eligible to enter or win.

For current and past usage, sign in to eUtility or, if you haven’t already, sign up for eUtility online by clicking the link below or by phoning customer service at 403.529.8111. The Challenge runs from July 1, 2018 to July 31, 2018. Entries will be accepted at Customer Service at City Hall until July 31, 2018 at 4:30 p.m. MST and online until July 31, 2018 at 11:59 p.m. MST.

DYK_Self-Audit ToolkitsPrizes totaling $1,500 in City of Medicine Hat Gift Cards will be awarded to the top three (3) qualifying households that meet a minimum of 5% energy reduction:
  • $750 Grand prize will be awarded to the household with the greatest percentage energy reduction
  • $500 Second Place
  • $250 Third Place
Remaining entrants will be entered to win one of ten (10) $50 City Gift Cards. Click on the link below to find out where City Gift Cards can be redeemed.

The top three prizes will be awarded on August 15, 2018 and all random draws will take place at that time. Should any category result in a tie among Entrants, HAT Smart (City) staff will determine one winner based on a random draw. Winners will be contacted and the Utility Bill account holder is responsible for collecting their prize from Customer Service within 30 days. Photo ID must be shown at time of pick up.

Tips and reminders will be emailed to participants, published on the HAT Smart webpage, and posted on the City’s Facebook and Twitter page.

By participating, contest entrants grant the City of Medicine Hat the right to use his or her name, and likeness. Recognition could include, but is not limited to, the City and HAT Smart websites, City Facebook and Twitter accounts, Medicine Hat News, and the Shopper.
