The City of Medicine Hat Electric Distribution Department would like to advise residents and business owners that work will be done to upgrade electrical systems in the downtown core from April to October 2018.   At no point will this work require any power outages to the customer.  Alleyways from 1st Street to 5th Street and South Railway to 4th Avenue SE will be affected as outlined in the map below.

The upgrade of this system is part of the City’s Downtown Electrical upgrade project which began in June 2015.  Once the project is completed, in October 2018, there will be a safer and more reliable electric system within the downtown core.

Work will commence between 7 am and 7 pm, weekdays with occasional weekends.  A minimal impact is anticipated, however businesses, pedestrians and motor vehicles may be affected in one or more of the following ways:
  • Large equipment will be maneuvering in and out of various alleyways within the downtown core.  Traffic accommodations will be made to safely guide motor vehicle and pedestrian traffic.
  • Minor closures and or limited access of alleyways, sidewalks and lanes; best effort will be made to maintain access to back alleyways .
Regular updates will be provided through:
  • The City of Medicine Hat website
  • Facebook/Twitter
  • Construction signage in the area
  • Public Notices in the Medicine Hat News.

The City of Medicine Hat would like to thank you in advance for your understanding and patience through the completion of this project.
