Gay Dubeau has made an exceptional and lasting contribution to figure skating and power skating in Canada, combining elite competitive experience with rare coaching expertise. She competed at the Canadian Figure Skating Championships in 1973, laying the foundation for a distinguished coaching career that followed. One of fewer than ten people in Canada certified to facilitate Skate Canada’s CanPowerSkate program, Gay became a leader in advanced skating development for athletes across multiple sports. In Medicine Hat, she founded the Cypress School of Skating in 1987 and later Platinum Star Power Skating in 2009, creating respected programs known for excellence and athlete development. Her impact and dedication were recognized when she was named Alberta Figure Skating Coach of the Year in 2001, cementing her reputation as a trailblazer and mentor in Canadian skating.
