Lorne Holden was a tireless community builder whose passion for sport touched generations of athletes in Medicine Hat and beyond. For more than 30 years, he organized sporting events for participants ranging in age from six to eighty, ensuring opportunities for recreation, competition, and camaraderie at every stage of life. His leadership helped lay the groundwork for organized sport in the region, including his involvement in organizing minor hockey in 1950 and Little League baseball in 1954. On a broader stage, Lorne played a central provincial role in the development of senior slow‑pitch softball for men over the age of sixty beginning in 1980, helping promote lifelong participation in sport. His legacy is defined by inclusiveness, vision, and an unwavering commitment to keeping people active and connected through athletics.
