Lorne Thomson was a true icon of western sport and tradition, renowned for his skill, endurance, and lifelong dedication to rodeo and community events. Recognized as one of the top bronco riders in Western Canada during the 1920s and 1930s, he exemplified grit and horsemanship during the golden era of rodeo. His commitment to the community continued for decades beyond his competitive years, as he helped organize and worked with the Medicine Hat Exhibition and Stampede Company from 1947 to 1983, playing an important role in preserving and promoting western heritage. Remarkably, Lorne remained actively involved in the sport he loved, racing pony chariots well into his late sixties. His legacy is one of passion, perseverance, and an enduring contribution to Medicine Hat’s rodeo history.
