Marg Derbyshire is a highly respected educator, organizer, and leader whose dedication has left a lasting legacy in Medicine Hat school and community sport. From 1975 to 2000, she served as a Physical Education and Math teacher at Monsignor McCoy High School, inspiring countless students through her commitment to excellence and participation. Her leadership extended well beyond the classroom, as she became South Zone Secretary‑Treasurer for the Alberta Schools Athletic Association at its inception in 1984, a role that helped shape high school sport across the province. Marg has been deeply involved in organizing junior country, track and field, curling, and many other activities, and has managed the Rotary Track since 2008. Her impact has been formally recognized with her induction into the ASAA High School Sports Hall of Fame in 2011, her name appearing on girls’ golf trophies and within McCoy High School, and through the creation of the Marg Derbyshire Invitational Volleyball Tournament—an enduring tribute to her passion, leadership, and service to youth sport.
