Peter Simpson was a dedicated leader in recreation and aquatic safety whose efforts left a lasting impact on the Medicine Hat community. From 1947 to 1962, he served as a swimming instructor, supervisor, and sports builder, sharing his knowledge and commitment to safety with generations of residents. His remarkable contribution was recognized in 1958 when he received the Red Cross Order of Merit for supervising and teaching swimming to more than 14,000 people—an achievement that reflects both scale and dedication. Beyond instruction, Peter was instrumental in the construction of the Crestwood Recreation Centre, helping create a vital community facility that expanded access to recreation and sport. His legacy is one of service, leadership, and a deep commitment to community well‑being.

Instrumental in Crestwood Recreation Centre construction. Note: This inductee was originally part of the community’s 'Wall of Fame' and was transferred to the 'Sports Wall of Fame' in 2010.
