Ross was a star forward with the intermediate Medicine Hat Monarchs. More importantly, he threw himself into coaching school and junior hockey, school baseball and track and field competitions. Throughout his career as a school teacher, vice-principal and principal he complimented his vast teaching skills with a deep commitment to sports. As an avid outdoorsman he spent much of his spare time with neighbourhood youngsters – instructing them in hunting and fishing and taking them on countless outings. For 38 years the sports community benefited from his concern, skill and dedication.
He will be long and fondly remembered as a man who could “reach into a person to find and develop that thread of talent – that measure of ability that is there in everyone”.
