Ross McKay was a respected athlete, educator, and mentor whose influence extended well beyond the rink. As a star forward with the Medicine Hat Monarchs senior hockey team, he distinguished himself through skill, leadership, and dedication to the game. In his professional life as a school teacher and principal, Ross shared that same passion for development by coaching hockey, baseball, and track and field, inspiring students to strive for excellence both in sport and in life. An avid outdoorsman, he devoted 38 years to mentoring children in hunting, fishing, and a wide range of outdoor activities, passing on values of respect, responsibility, and appreciation for the natural world. Ross McKay’s legacy is one of commitment, mentorship, and a lifelong dedication to helping young people grow through sport and outdoor recreation.

Description Star forward with Medicine Hat Monarchs senior hockey team. As a school teacher and principal, coached hockey, baseball and track and field. An avid outdoorsman who mentored children in hunting, fishing and outdoor activities for 38 years. Note: This inductee was originally part of the community’s 'Wall of Fame' and was transferred to the 'Sports Wall of Fame' in 2010.
