Development incentives provide financial assistance to help spur growth, expansion and innovation in our community.
City Centre Vibrancy Program
Medicine Hat Economic Development and Community Futures Entre-Corp are partnering to deliver the City Centre Vibrancy Program, a new funding initiative aimed at supporting local businesses and property owners in enhancing the visual appeal of their commercial space.
This program is designed to encourage improvement projects in the City Centre by offering financial support through a combination of grant funding and interest-free loans, up to a maximum of $30,000 per applicant.
Applications will be processed on a first-come, first-served basis. Approval amounts will be subject to the remaining funds available under this program at the time of an approved application.

Residential Tax Exemption Bylaw
Bylaw No. 4851, the Residential Tax Exemption Bylaw, is a bylaw of the City of Medicine Hat to encourage the development or redevelopment of multiple unit residential housing.
This program offers a municipal tax exemption on the increased assessed value of eligible properties following new construction. The exemption will apply specifically to the municipal portion of the tax increase, calculated based on the difference between the property's assessed value before and after construction
The length and percentage of the tax exemption you receive will depend on two key factors, the number of units in your development, and the location of your property, as identified in Schedule A of the bylaw.
Brownfield Redevelopment Tax Incentive
The Brownfield Redevelopment Tax Incentive, will provide financial assistance to non-residential property owners to remediate brownfield sites located within the City of Medicine Hat by providing tax relief for a period of up to five (5) years.

Non-Residential Tax Incentive
The Non-Residential Tax Incentive, will provide financial assistance to property owners in the City of Medicine Hat to develop large-scale commercial or industrial developments that result in tax assessment growth and job creation.

Machinery & Equipment Tax Exemption
Medicine Hat’s Bylaw under the Municipal Government Act Section 364 (1.1) exempts Machinery and Equipment from taxation.
