The following is a program overview for employers that identifies eligibility requirements for participation. Employers and candidates are responsible to read and understand all provincial and regional eligibility requirements.

Employers and employment agencies cannot accept money for an offer of employment.


 

Application Details

The following information will assist in the preparation of your application and employer consultation.

 

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Employer reads and understands the eligibility criteria and submits a request to participate

  2. Employer attends a 30-minute online consultation and signs memorandum of understanding

    1. Participating employer with a job vacancy may submit a job vacancy form
    2. Participating employer with an existing employee may submit a job offer form
  3. Administration shares job vacancies on the Southeast Alberta Job Board so that any job seeker can apply

  4. Administration reviews job offers for eligibility before the employer fee is requested

  5. Candidate participates in 30 minute interview

  6. Candidate and employers are notified of the endorsement letter decision by email

Canadians and Locals First

Job vacancies must be available to people living in the community first. Participating employers are required to advertise vacant positions on Canada Job Bank and Indeed for a minimum of 3-months. Positions advertised must meet the eligibility requirements of the Southeast Alberta Rural Renewal. All vacancies will be available on the Southeast Alberta Immigration Job Board. All job seekers are encouraged to apply.

Provincial Requirements

Provincial eligibility requirements are not identified on this page. To avoid lost time and money, employers are responsible for reading and understanding the provincial Rural Renewal eligibility requirements.

 

Regional Industry and Occupation Eligibility

Employers are responsible for reading and understanding the regional Rural Renewal eligibility requirements.

The SAMI Rural Renewal Program accepts applications exclusively from employers operating in the industries identified below, with corresponding 3-digit NAICS codes noted in brackets 

  • Healthcare and Social Assistance (621, 622, 623, 624)
  • Education, Law, Community and Government Services (611, 541, 911,912,913)
  • Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (541)
  • Construction & Trades (236, 237, 238)
  • Manufacturing (311-337)

Incorporation and Registration of Company

Employers must be incorporated or registered by, or under an act of the legislature of a province, territory, or the parliament of Canada, and an established business with property, plant, and equipment within the municipal boundaries of the City of Medicine Hat or the Town of Bow Island.

 

Application Fee

Employers must pay a fee of $350.00 for each Rural Renewal Job Offer application submitted. Job offers are reviewed for eligibility and accuracy before payment is requested. Payments are made online by credit card only.

 

Wage and Skill Level of Candidate

The current living wage is based on the Alberta Living Wage Network 2025 Report. Canada Job Bank reports regional wage levels for all occupations in Canada. Candidates must receive the Job bank median wage for their occupation in the Lethbridge-Medicine Hat region and cannot be paid less than $18.15/hour. The provincial median-wage may be used if no regional rate is available.

Every occupation in Canada is classified using the Training, Education, Experience, and Responsibility (TEER) system.  The second digit of a National Occupation Classification (NOC) code corresponds to the occupations TEER level.Candidates are required to meet provincial work experience eligibility requirements as identified on the Alberta Advantage Immigration Rural Renewal Stream website.

 

   

 

Employers suspected of charging fees or accepting funds in exchange for an offer of employment to a foreign national will be suspended from the Southeast Alberta Rural Renewal without reimbursement of any kind and will be reported to Alberta Employment Standards and the Canadian Temporary Foreign Worker Advisory Office.
