Rec and Ride Youth Pass

The City of Medicine Hat is pleased to introduce a new Rec and Ride Youth Pass for summer 2025! Passes go on sale Monday, June 23, 2025. They are valid from June 27 to September 5.

The pass is a collaborative initiative between the City’s Parks and Recreation department, Medicine Hat Transit (MHT), and the YMCA of Southeastern Alberta. 
Youth aged 13-17 are eligible for a Rec and Ride Youth Pass. For $50, passholders are granted unlimited transit use, as well as entry to six total City and YMCA recreation facilities in Medicine Hat when valid:
  • Big Marble Go Centre
  • Crestwood Recreation Centre
  • Hill Pool
  • Strathcona Pool
  • Downtown YMCA
  • South Ridge YMCA

Rec and Ride Youth Passes are available to all youth, regardless of physical address – not just Medicine Hat residents. Passes are available for purchase at the customer service desk at Big Marble Go Centre.

How much does a Rec and Ride Youth Pass cost?
Rec and Ride Youth Passes are $50 per youth. The purchase of the pass cannot be pro-rated if purchased after the start of the program. 

Subsidies including Fair Entry, Jumpstart, and Kids Sport are not available for use as part of this program.
What is required to purchase a pass?
Any youth purchasing a Rec and Ride Youth Pass must be in attendance at time of purchase, be ready to have their photo taken for their rec profile, and have $50 for payment.
What is included with the Rec and Ride Youth Pass?
The Rec and Ride Youth Pass includes two cards - one for accessing recreation facilities, and another for accessing Medicine Hat Transit services.

Rec and Ride Youth Passes include unlimited ridership on Medicine Hat Transit and unlimited access to the six facilities listed above.

Pass holders can access public swimming, fitness centres, and drop-in programming. Fees still apply to attend any fee-based registered programs.

What if I lose or damage my pass?
If the membership card is lost, damaged, or stolen, then a new card can be purchased for $5.00.

If the transit card is lost, damaged, or stolen, then a brand-new pass must be purchased for $38.75.

Is the Rec and Ride Youth Pass refundable or transferable?
Rec and Ride Youth Passes are non-refundable and non-transferable. Pass users will have their account and identity verified upon entry to all facilities and using transit.
Do I have to sign in and show my pass every time I visit a facility or ride the bus?
Yes, all users must either scan or check-in prior to accessing a public facility every single time, even if during the same day. The pass must be tapped every time riding transit.
Do I need to have a current membership at a City facility or the YMCA to purchase this pass?
Current active membership is not required to purchase this pass.
What if I already have a membership at a City facility or the YMCA?
Your membership and payment may be paused until the end of end of day September 5, 2025, when the Rec and Ride Youth Pass is no longer valid. Please visit Customer Service at Big Marble Go Centre to discuss this process.
What if I already have a Medicine Hat Transit pass?
The Rec and Ride Youth Pass is separate from any other regular Medicine Hat Transit pass you may have. If you have an E-Pass, your pass will remain in effect until the expiry date. If you have an E-Cash or day pass, these will only be used when tapped to board the bus.
Where can I find more information?
Is it safe for youth to ride the bus alone?
Yes! There are numerous security and safety measures in place to keep all riders safe while using Transit. There is 24-hour security at the transit terminal downtown, and drivers are present when bus transfers are being made. Security actively patrols the terminal whenever buses are present, and transfers are occurring. There are video cameras throughout the bus terminal, which are monitored 24/7.
