LLMP
Purpose
Employers have been struggling to find the talent they need to grow and succeed; simultaneously, job seekers are struggling to find opportunities. It can be challenging to determine where there is a mismatch between skills supply and job demand, and why it’s happening.
The Local Labour Market Profiles project was initiated to gather and analyze data to help provide a picture of the labour market in Medicine Hat, and more broadly in Southeast Alberta.
The up-to-date labour market data will inform evidence-based decision making on local programming to improve the balance of labour supply and demand.
Project Outline
The Medicine Hat and Southeast Alberta Local Labour Market Profiles were developed by first reviewing currently available data. This includes consideration for recent reports that have been completed, including projects such as the Labour Market Skills Gaps in Southeast Alberta (completed by Medicine Hat College and Community Futures Entre-Corp) and Vital Signs (completed by the Community Foundation of Southeast Alberta) among others. Additionally, special runs of available employment data were obtained from Statistics Canada, coupled with publicly available data to complete the picture.
Following an analysis of currently available data, a survey was conducted to generate a picture of the current experience of employers in Medicine Hat and Southeast Alberta, culminating in the completion of the Labour Market Profile for Medicine Hat and the Labour Market Profile for Southeast Alberta.
