City clarifies mobile vaccine clinic information

Medicine Hat – At the regular City Council meeting on Monday, Oct. 4, Director of Emergency Management Merrick Brown announced that the City is actively working towards bringing more mobile vaccination clinics to Medicine Hat.

The Council briefing suggested the vaccine bus was to begin this weekend (Oct. 9 and 10) but staff have since learned the earliest availability for the bus is after the Thanksgiving weekend.

The City has tentatively reserved the vaccine bus for the weekends of Oct. 16-17, Oct. 23-24 and Oct. 30-31, pending further negotiations. Full details will be announced once confirmed.

“The good news is that the company authorized by Alberta Health to provide this mobile service is very busy, meaning many communities are offering this additional option for Albertans to become vaccinated,” said Merrick Brown, Director of Emergency Management. “It is so important that we support the effort to increase vaccination rates across the province, not just in Medicine Hat, so we’ll patiently wait our turn.”

The first mobile vaccination clinic in Medicine Hat occurred Sept. 10 at the Medicine Hat College and Sept. 11 at the Big Marble Go Centre.

Those who are eager to become vaccinated prior to the mobile unit’s return can still book an appointment with Alberta Health Services or a pharmacy online at: www.alberta.ca/vaccine or visit a participating walk-in clinic or doctor’s office.

Meanwhile, the City reminds residents to take basic steps to protect themselves and their loved ones from all respiratory illnesses, including COVID-19 and influenza.

  • Stay home when sick
  • Wash and sanitize hands often
  • Cover coughs and sneezes
  • Avoid touching your face, nose, mouth or unwashed hands
  • Clean and disinfect surfaces that are frequently touched
