City installs Veterans’ Crosswalk; hosting ceremonial event

The City of Medicine Hat is pleased to invite the public to attend a ceremonial event outside City Hall on Saturday, October 25, to commemorate the recent installation of a Veterans’ Crosswalk in downtown Medicine Hat.

The Veterans’ Crosswalk is located between City Hall and Riverside Veterans’ Memorial Park, on the north side of the intersection of Sixth Avenue SE and First Street SE. Crews installed the crosswalk this week.

The event will run from 9 to 9:30 a.m. in the plaza on the east side of City Hall near the crosswalk. The roadway will remain open to minimize the disruption to downtown traffic.

This crosswalk was made possible through a request from a member of the public – Mr. Edward Devine. Mr. Devine brought the request to City administration, and City Council approved a motion to support this request at the September 15 City Council Meeting.

The City of Medicine Hat appreciates this opportunity to honour the service of the veterans who fought in the name of peace, and the sacrifice of those who gave their lives defending it.

The City would also like to thank Mr. Devine for bringing this request forward. It has been an honour to ensure this initiative comes to fruition as we approach Remembrance Day.
