City introduces tree decorating permit ahead of holiday season
Medicine Hat – The City of Medicine Hat is introducing a public tree decorating permit for residents who wish to decorate trees on city-owned land.
Decorating may begin on Wednesday, December 1.
“We are asking that only shatter-proof decorations may be used,” said Dave Genio, Manager of Parks with the Parks & Recreation department. “Lights will also be allowed, so long as they’re solar or battery powered. They must also state that they are permitted for outdoor use.”
Full details about the permit are available on the city website.
“It’s important that all lights and ornaments are secured to the tree, so they’re not knocked off or lost in the wind,” Genio added. “Please don’t use staples, nails or anything that can cause damage to the tree. Instead we suggest plastic zip ties which can be cut off and discarded easily.”
Any litter from decorating must be removed from site by the applicant. All decorations must be taken down by Monday, January 31.
