City launches Parks and Trails Ambassador Program

Medicine Hat – The City of Medicine Hat in collaboration with the Medicine Hat Police Service, is excited to re-establish its Parks and Trails Ambassador Program.

“This initiative is a vital part of the city’s Outdoor Enjoyment Strategy,” says Kara Brake, coordinator business and innovation, Parks and Recreation. “The focus is on enhancing the outdoor experience for everyone who loves and uses our extensive park and trail systems.”

The Parks and Trails Ambassador Program is committed to and will promote the following values:

1. Safety and comfort: To ensure everyone feels safe and comfortable when enjoying the city’s parks and trails.

2. Protecting the natural environment: To be responsible in using our amenities to preserve our city's beautiful, natural spaces for future generations.

3. Enjoyment and respect: To ensure every recreationist feels welcomed and can enjoy our parks and trails while respecting others' experiences.

4. Inclusion: To make our parks and trail systems inclusive spaces for all users.

This program is a volunteer opportunity for individuals ages 18 years or older interested in promoting the safety, well-being, and responsible enjoyment of our parks and trails. The presence of the Ambassadors serves as a sign that our trail system remains a safe and welcoming environment for everyone.

All Parks and Trails Ambassadors will register for shifts based on their availability and preferred locations. Volunteers will be identifiable in provided jackets and will carry tokens of goodwill to distribute to the public as they see fit.

For those interested in learning more about the program, information sessions will be held on July 17 and 18 at 7 p.m. at the Big Marble Go Centre.
