City of Medicine Hat appoints chief electoral officer
Medicine Hat – The City of Medicine Hat is pleased to announce the appointment of Andres Cardona Arias as the chief electoral officer.
As the chief electoral officer, Cardona Arias will be responsible for the administration of the next municipal election, slated for October 20, 2025. This contract role involves election planning and oversight, ensuring all election activity adheres to relevant legislation, policy development, voter education and outreach, election monitoring and oversight, recruiting and training staff to facilitate election day, and more.
Cardona Arias holds a Bachelor of Arts in political studies and has completed the coursework for a Master of Public Administration from the University of Saskatchewan (graduation this fall). He has experience in federal and municipal elections as an elections clerk, deputy returning officer, and enumerator. His most recent election experience was with Elections Calgary, where he served as the elections clerk – verification clerk.
“We are so pleased that Andres has accepted this contract,” says Ann Mitchell, City Manager. “He brings a wealth of expertise and knowledge to the role and will be instrumental in ensuring our next election is facilitated effectively and fairly.”
Cardona Arias has relocated to Medicine Hat and will commence in the role on September 9, 2024 with the contract expected to be in place until December 31, 2025.
