City of Medicine Hat receives Budget Award for 2025-2026 Budget
Medicine Hat – The City of Medicine Hat is the recipient of the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for the 2025-2026 budget document. The award is meant to encourage local governments to prepare budget documents of the very highest quality that reflect both the guidelines established by the National Advisory Council on State and Local Budgeting and the GFOA's best practices. To earn recognition, budget documents must meet program criteria and excel as a policy document, financial plan, operations guide, and communication tool.
“This achievement continues to demonstrate our organization’s dedication to excellence in financial planning and reporting,” said Jilian Campbell, Chief Financial Officer and Managing Director of Corporate Services. “It’s a reflection of the ongoing efforts of our staff to uphold the highest standards of transparency and accountability. We hope this recognition reassures the community of our commitment to clear, accessible, and responsible financial stewardship.”
The GFOA, founded in 1906, represents public finance officials throughout the United States and Canada. The reports are judged by an impartial Canadian Review Committee to meet the high standards of the program, including demonstrating a constructive “spirit of full disclosure” designed to clearly communicate the municipality’s financial story and to motivate potential users and user groups to read the report.
This is the City of Medicine Hat’s third consecutive budget term for the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award (2019-2022 and 2023-2024).
