City of Medicine Hat Statement on the passing of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II

Medicine Hat – Mayor Clark and City Manager Glenn Feltham extend their deepest condolences to the Royal Family, people of Great Britain and members of the Commonwealth upon the announcement of the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on September 8, 2022.

“I am saddened to hear of the passing of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II. Over the past 70 years, Queen Elizabeth has been a dedicated servant to her country and the commonwealth, working until her last day to perform the duties required of her. On behalf of City Council, I extend our condolences to the Royal Family for the loss of a beloved family member, and to all citizens of the commonwealth who feel this tremendous loss.”

The City of Medicine Hat has moved all flags to half mast, which will be back upright for the King’s announcement, and then moved back down to half mast until the funeral. Black cravats will be placed on all flags.

Portraits of Queen Elizabeth II in all City buildings will be draped in black. A book of condolences will be available at City Hall to leave messages to be passed on to Buckingham Palace.

The City of Medicine Hat expresses their loyalty and sympathy to the new head of state, King Charles III.

A national ceremony will be held in Ottawa and a provincial ceremony will be held in Edmonton. Details will be posted on the memorial services page when plans are final.

Residents can also write directly to members of the Royal Family by sending a letter or card to the office of the Royal Household.
