City on standby to provide support during cold weather
Medicine Hat – In collaboration with community partners, the City of Medicine Hat is monitoring current conditions to ensure that appropriate plans are in place to support vulnerable populations during expected cold temperatures. With demands for local shelter access expected to meet or exceed capacity, a plan is in place to offer immediate support to augment local community services if needed.
These short-term solutions to support vulnerable people in the community will continue while a permanent shelter location is determined. To view a list of the existing available resources, visit Medicine Hat Community Housing's website.
The City would like to remind all residents to take extra care in extreme cold conditions. If you are spending extended time outside, dress with warm, insulating layers close to the body and wind and waterproof layers on the outside. If you are travelling, be sure to carry a cold weather kit in your vehicle, and keep your cell phone charged. Reach out to Alberta Health Services for more information about staying safe in extreme cold. Residents can visit the Big Marble Go Centre, Library, Medicine Hat Mall or City Hall to warm up during regular hours.
