City seeking feedback on future use of downtown seacans

Medicine Hat – The City of Medicine Hat is requesting feedback from residents and community groups to help determine the community need and possibilities for future use of the eight seacans located downtown, if their removal is approved by City Council.

At the October 15 Public Services Committee meeting, City administration recommended that the seacans be removed from their current location downtown where they have served as market pods. The matter has been referred to the November 18 City Council meeting for consideration and debate.

A key component of the information presented to City Council prior to consideration is public input on alternative use ideas that produce community benefit.

“When determining how an asset or service may benefit the community, it’s important to make sure we’re consulting with the community and hearing what they feel is needed,” said Aaron Nelson, Manager of Cultural Experiences and Events. “We look forward to working with residents and community groups to ensure the future use of these seacans can meet the needs of Medicine Hat.”

Residents and community groups are asked to share their ideas, comment on other ideas, and vote on ideas they agree are of high community benefit by November 10 at 5 p.m.

To share, vote, and for more information, visit the City’s Shape Your City page.
