City to follow artist requests regarding COVID attendance requirements
Medicine Hat – With concerts and events soon to commence at City venues, the City of Medicine Hat has made the decision to follow artist’s requests regarding COVID protocols, including if proof of vaccination is required for attendees.
This mandate will include all venue staff and volunteers.
“We want to be respectful of the measures being put in place by any entertainer,” said Trampas Brown, Manager of Guest Experience and Operations. “They want to protect themselves and their crew, but most importantly, they want to be able to protect their fans.”
Those planning to attend the City and Colour concert scheduled for November 20, 2021, will be required to provide proof of vaccination or a negative COVID test as per the artist’s request. The process to meet this requirement is not yet determined but will be done in accordance with all applicable health orders and privacy laws.
Anyone not wishing to comply with this mandate will be offered refunds until Friday, September 3, 2021.
“We are seeing these types of requests more and more, especially as artists begin to rebook shows,” Brown added. “These protocols are becoming commonplace, from small venues to major festivals, and should be expected to continue for some time. We’ll continue to work with these groups in order to sustain entertainment opportunities for our community.”
At this time, the City does not have a formal policy developed, but staff at Co-op Place and the Esplanade Arts & Heritage Centre are working closely with artists to determine measures on a case by case basis.
