City to Reopen Select Recreation Facilities under New Guidelines
The Big Marble Go Centre will reopen for pre-registered minor sports, club bookings and private rentals, for one-on-one training by certified coaches, as outlined in the new guidelines. School groups will also be accommodated where possible, based on bookings and availability.
The Kinsmen Aquatic Park at the Big Marble Go Centre will gradually reopen and will be available for swim clubs with one-on-one coaching, as well as private one-on-one lessons provided by City staff. Preregistration will be required. Regular lane swim and drop-in programs will not be available at this time, due to provincial restrictions.
The South Country Co-op Fitness Centre will also be available for private one-on-one sessions. Preregistration will be required. Drop-in and regular classes will be unavailable.
The Kinsmen Aquatic Park and South Country Co-op Fitness Centre will operate under restricted hours from Monday to Friday. This schedule will be reviewed and adjusted based on bookings and registrations.
The fieldhouse and gymnasium at the Big Marble Go Centre will also be available for one-on-one training by certified coaches.
“With these current restrictions in mind, we will continue to operate two arenas, including the Cenovus Arena at Big Marble Go Centre, and Co-op Place,” said Jeff Hoglund, Recreation Manager with the City of Medicine Hat. “The Kinplex ice surfaces will be removed for the remainder of the 2021 winter season and we’re currently in consultation with local user groups regarding the Hockey Hounds Recreation Centre.”
Staff will continue to work with user groups to schedule ice time throughout the community.
“We anticipate these latest restrictions will be in place until at least March,” Hoglund said. “Many communities are removing their ice to balance user needs with cost efficiency. Removing the ice now will also help us prepare for the spring and summer program demands.”
The City of Medicine Hat continues to support our province in their efforts to manage the spread of COVID-19. We thank residents for their patience and understanding as new information is announced and implemented.
